Queen Elizabeth of England has stripped Meghan Markle and Prince Harry of their royal titles, announced Buckingham Palace on February 19, 2021. According to the announcement, titles currently held by the couple have been recalled and will be redistributed among working members of the British royalty alias The Royal Family.
The decision of the Queen reportedly follows an earlier confirmation to her by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry that they will not change their minds about a decision they announced in January 2020, to step back from royal family duties. The Queen had given them one year to reconsider their decision.
Accordingly, the Queen is said to have told Meghan Markle and Prince Harry that by stepping back from The Royal Family duties it will not be possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that comes with a life of public service. However, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are said to have challenged the Queen saying, among others, that public service is universal, probably correctly implying that one does not have to be royal to engage in public service, and, as such, the couple should be able to continue getting involved in public service even after losing their royal titles.
